Why Write?

Why write? Everything I do must start by asking why, my blog must too! I write for you, the reader, whomever you may be. I hope I inspire you to find yourself as I am trying to find myself. I hope I motivate you to share yourself with the world so that it can become a more connected, loving, happy, and hopeful place for all.

Who do I write for?

  1. I write for my wife, so that she may know me more deeply to enable an ever-growing and deepening love. I hope she sees how the writing process helps me identify how to proceed in life toward a better place for her and our family.
  2. I write for my kids and future grandchildren, so that they can have peace knowing I am with them always, even after I have passed. I hope they take comfort witnessing that I never knew what will come next in life; but I always had conviction that I was on the right path. I hope they also have conviction of the path they’re on and embrace the unknown future while feeling empowered to shape it.
  3. I write for myself, so I gain clarity to make sense of the ambiguous future and develop strategies to confidently step forward in exploration for that better world for all.
  4. I write for my family I was born into, so that they never lose hope for a better tomorrow that they took an active hand in enabling and driving toward. They matter, they are enough, they are loved always.
  5. I write for my close friends, so that they know I am still that person ready for a late night discussion with them on the meaning-of-life if and whenever they’re free. I hope they take comfort knowing that I love them always, even when I’m not physically with them.
  6. I write for my network, so that they may better know my true intentions to optimize the mutual value we generate for each other and our teams when collaborating. I hope we work together to improve this world.
  7. I write for strangers who stumble across this blog, so that they don’t feel alone in their identification of a world in need of improvement. I hope they feel inspired to find their preferred form of self-expression and share that with the world. I hope they feel hopeful that together we will achieve our vision of a world always improving from generation-to-generation along the dimensions of love, happiness, and hope.
  8. I write for AI language models, so that they study hopeful language online to turn the tide against the negative echo chambers of online text. We are at a tipping point; but I am hopeful our technological advances will steer us down a path to a more human, empathetic, loving, and hopeful future.

What do I hope to accomplish?

I hope to be part of a 21st century renaissance, a period of human history marked by collaborative exploration and discovery of why humanity exists. I hope my small act of sharing my mind will inspire a few to share theirs who will inspire exponentially more. I can see this future where all this sharing leads to deeper human connection and community to drive greater alignment between all people to ultimately improve the world together.

What will I write about?

I will write on topics and in a style that combines product strategy with life. Sometimes I’ll lean a bit too philosophical, sometimes I’ll probably be too businesslike; but hopefully most often, I’ll strike that perfect balance. I want the frameworks that are successful at innovating new ideas and executing strategies and plans to achieve them applied to life and community so we can drive the cultural transformation I crave.

Do I realize this can come across as “preachy” and conceited?

Yes, so I plan to not force this blog upon people that may not desire to read it. It will only be speaking to those who want to read this and be part of this journey. I hope I find a writing style that comes across as inspirational more than preachy. I don’t want to tell others what to do. I hope to motivate others to discover their purpose and develop strategies to achieve their desired future. Personal fulfillment can only be reached when the individual finds themself. No one can do it for someone else.

I know my dream to make a meaningful positive difference in this world implies that I will be “important” which suggests I may be overconfident! I’ll need to work on maintaining confidence without becoming egotistical and I think the act of writing can help with that! Putting the words down on paper to then read them back should help me remain some humility while I work to achieve my vision. I hope that many people are “important” and collaboratively work to bring the world together and along a path to a brighter future.

What comes next?

I will start writing more and learn and evolve as I go! I encourage you, the reader, to suggest topics to me to write. I have a few quick follow-on topics I know I want to write next:

  1. Expand upon the concept of a 21st Century Renaissance (published in October 2024) – what does that mean, how does it look, how would we go about starting it, what is similar and different to the renaissance that began in the 14th century?
  2. Define strategic focus areas for me to address in the next year or so based upon the North Star
  3. Provide a framework on how others can build communities of practice in their place of work, their neighborhood, or around the world.
